Construction Updates

We would like to keep you updated on all construction matters at Gilston Park.

Places for People continue to undertake early technical works to inform the design of infrastructure associated with the delivery of the Gilston Park Estate development.

The survey work is scheduled to start (awaiting confirmation from Hertfordshire County Council) on Monday 18th March 2024 and will last from 09:00pm-05:00am for the duration of 6 NIGHTS ONLY.

The works due to be undertaken are subject to confirmation by the highways authority, Hertfordshire County Council.

Specific lane closures are marked on the attached simplified traffic management plans.

Works include Ground Penetration Surveys (GPR) and Trial Holes, with more information about what this means shared below.

GPR Survey Context & Summary

Ground Penetrating Survey (GPR) is a non-invasive survey technique that makes use of radio waves to detect the type, extent and depth of underground services and utilities. This piece of work is required for the Central Stort Crossing enabling works and upgrades of infrastructure ahead the development of the new housing villages. The output of the survey aims to equip the design team with up-to-date information on location and types of services for consideration of the design as a whole, and will help determine any re-routing, diversion and protection mechanisms that may need to be undertaken with the associated works.

Trial Hole Survey Context & Summary

Trial Hole Survey is a survey undertaken to determine and validate the location, depth and extent of utility related services below ground level. This piece of work is required for the Central Stort Crossing enabling works and upgrades of infrastructure ahead the development of the new housing villages. The survey is carried out in accordance with professionally pre-determined locations, either by hand digging of trenches or test pits excavated by small plant. Once the trial holes are excavated and the utility information is retrieved, assessed, and logged, the trial holes are reinstated. This information is then integrated into the overall design of the scheme.

We have notified all key stakeholders to make them aware that members of the team will be visible on site during the survey period, should the works go ahead. I would be grateful if this could be passed on to your network.
