Construction Updates

We would like to keep you updated on all construction matters at Gilston Park.

Further archaeological surveys to commence at Gilston

Places for People is due to carry out archaeological trial trenching and survey works on land forming part of Village 2 of the Gilston Area development, to inform future design and construction.

These works are taking place in accordance with the approved planning permissions for the new proposed Stort Crossings.

Works will commence on Monday 2nd September 2024, concluding after six to eight weeks. These works consist of the creation of trenches across the site under the supervision of a qualified archaeologist. This is a broadly passive exercise with minimal disruption to the local environment beyond the noise of moving plant/machinery. At the completion of the works, the ground is returned to its original state.

The public right of way across the site will remain open for the duration of the works, but users should be aware of relevant signage at any all crossing points. Each excavator is supervised by a qualified banksman, to ensure safe movement through the site.

Eastern Stort Crossing ground investigations

Places for People is due to carry out ground investigations on land required for the proposed Eastern Stort Crossing route, to further inform its design.

These enabling works are being undertaken in accordance with the approved planning permission for the new Eastern Stort Crossing.

Works will commence on the week of Monday 1st July 2024 for a total of four months, and consist of the creation of small diameter boreholes and trial pits, a broadly passive exercise with limited disruption to the local environment beyond the noise of moving plant/machinery.

Because of the former use of parts of the site as landfill, extra safety precautions will be in place for the onsite team which will include additional personal protective equipment such as masks and overalls to protect them in the unlikely event of exposure to contamination. There is no risk to the public arising from these works.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by these ground investigations.
